Yes on the Safe Prescribing Act

Safe Prescribing is legislation that has to pass now.

Yes on the Safe Prescribing Act of 2103. This act is long overdue answer to the recurrent drug abuse issue that has been going on in the U.S.

The act that was proposed by republican Senator Mark Kirk, and republican representative Rodney Davis, along with other senators and representatives, would put tighter restrictions on the pain killer Hydrocodone.

Hydrodone is classified as an opioid, which in the family of drugs that include morphine, heroin, oxycodone, codeine, and methadone.

It should be common sense that a drug with the potency of heroin should be restricted to limit the occurrence of abuse.

According to USA Today, in 2011 the U.S wrote more than 131 million prescriptions for Hydrocodone, dubbing hydrocodone as the most prescribed drug for that year.

Along with other accolades, hydrocodone ranks among the most-abused prescribed medications according to the DEA.

Drug fatalities account for the leading cause of death, surpassing deaths from motor vehicle accidents.

This shows you how serious this problem is, specifically in the U.S. alone.

This bill should garner support from the American public because these are problems that are under the radar when it comes to other issues that are being handled by lawmakers in Capitol Hill.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Hydrocodone was involved in 945 of the 3,733 prescription drug-related fatalities in southern California from 2006 through 2011.

The Safe Prescribing Act of 2013 would provide hope for the reduction of drug-related deaths to be reduced tremendously if it passes.

The message congressman should get is that they shouldn’t beat around the bush with this legislation.

This concerns the well-being of Americans and if it does not pass it would mean that the lawmakers really don’t care about the real issues behind prescription drug abuse.
