Fantasy Football is very real

The season features people that don’t play fantasy football and like to ask “what’s the point if it’s not real?”

One, if you haven’t played fantasy football, you do not know how real it can be.

Two, this is something that must be taken very seriously in order to come out on top.

And three, achieving victory over all your friends at the end of the season is the point.

According to the Fantasy Sports Trade Association, 33 million people participated in fantasy football in 2013.

Fox Business Journal says that fantasy football is a $1 billion industry.

People in the United States are very into the world of fantasy sports and businesses have seen ways to profit, such as: making apps to monitor your players, starting up sites that allow you to win money, and TV shows that specifically give you advice on who to play.

Now the next part is when fantasy football takes over your life on a weekly basis based on the games that are played on the weekend.

You have to study and scout players before the draft begins so you actually know what you are doing. You can’t just show up and expect to have the best team without doing your research.

Serious drafts with some friends require a buy-in and take place somewhere where everyone can gather and announce their picks to the rest of the league.

Pizza and “beverages” are a must and some draft parties have gone as far as Las Vegas to make sure the experience is a memorable one.

Every week after the draft, the players you drafted are selected to start based on what position they pick such as running back or wide receiver. How the player does on the field in real life determines how many points that player earns on your team.

At the same time, you are also going against other people that are doing the same thing.

If something like an injury or a suspension happens to one of your players, then your team is affected accordingly.

Each week, you will be forced to adapt to injuries and match-ups in hopes that you will outsmart your opponents for the week.

The last weeks of the regular season are the playoffs for fantasy football, so the players on the teams that would be eliminated from the playoffs won’t be affected. However, those weeks determine if you will get to talk smack or receive a full dose of it when the playoffs roll around.

So next time football is on TV, think about how many people’s dreams and aspirations have been destroyed in the world of fantasy football.
