Despite resting players men’s tennis beats El Camino

Men’s tennis team extended their winning streak to six games as they defeated El Camino College 8-1 in a conference game on Feb. 27.

Cerritos is now 10-1 in season and 2-0 in conference games.

The Falcons host their next game on Friday, Feb. 27 against San Diego Mesa at home as the Falcons look to extend their winning streak to seven.

Playing singles first, the Falcons looked to take the advantage early on.

  • No. 1 singles Amadi Kagoma (Cerritos) defeated his opponent 6-0, 6-4.
  • No. 2 singles Mathieu David (Cerritos) defeated his opponent 6-0, 6-0.
  • No. 3 singles Henry Ayesiga (Cerritos) defeated his opponent 6-0, 6-0.
  • No. 4 singles Mark Antoniuk (Cerritos) defeated his opponent 7-5, 6-1.
  • No. 5 singles Milos Zoric (Cerritos) defeated his opponent 6-0, 6-3.

Head coach Alvin Kim decided to rest his players for the next game and decided to not play a No. 6 singles, so El Camino received a point by default.

Antonio Torrebella-Clark rested for the game, while Agustin Lombardi rested for singles, but played double.

Up 5-1 the Falcons with the game wrapped up, the Falcons looked to earn a sweep in doubles and earn 3 more points.

  • No. 1 doubles Amadi Kagoma/ Henry Ayesiga defeated their opponents 8-2.
  • No. 2 doubles Mark Antoniuk/ Agustin Lombardi defeated their opponents 8-2.
  • No. 3 doubles Mathieu David/ Milos Zoric defeated their opponents 8-2.

Kim said, “They played well. We rested some of our guys for tomorrow’s game, but if we want to win we have to fix our health problems and play.”

He added, “It will be tough against Mesa (San Diego Mesa) but I expect us to be prepared for this big game.”

Milos Zoric, computer programming major, said, “We have to have the strongest lineup for tomorrow’s match.”

He added, “It’s going to be a long match. I think the doubles are going to make the difference.”

Henry Ayesiga, kinesiology major, said, “It (the game) went well, we managed to secure a win. We hope to get the same results as today and getting ready for tomorrow.”
