Softball team gets ripped again

The Cerritos College softball team has a 2-18 record after losing 18-0 to Long Beach City College Friday at Nancy Kelly Field.

In the top of the first inning, Long Beach (19-2) scored seven runs.

Tara Drinkwater of the Vikings drove in Jill Calhoun on a bunt to make the score 1-0.

Becky Schueller then drove in Drinkwater and Monnaye Bernal on a single to make the score 3-0. Tracy Barrientos drove in Schueller and Monique Palacios to make the score 5-0.

Barrientos scored on a bad throw to first base to make the score 6-0.

Sha Oliver drove in Elida Gil De Montes to make the score 7-0.

In the top of the second inning Palacios drove in Oliver to make the score 8-0.

Schueller scored on a wild pitch, and Palacios scored on a walk to make the score 10-0.

Calhhoun singled in Barrientos to make the score 11-0.

In the top of the third inning, Denise Perez singled in Schueller and Palacios to make the score 13- 0.

Calhoun then drove in two more runs, driving in Perez and Barrientos.

Calhoun scored on a single by Bernal to make the score, 16-0.

The Vikings increased their lead with two more runs in the fourth inning.

Palacios scored on a wild pitch, then Calhoun singled in Barrientos.

Viking Coach Shellie McCall said her team played good defense. “We went out and played our game.”

The Vikings are first in the conference with a 6-0 record.

Notes

El Camino’s Delicia Mendoza shut out the Falcons for the second time in a week, allowing no hits as the Warriors won, 12-0.

El Camino scored nine runs in the fourth inning, when the game was called by the mercy rule.

In their last four games, the Falcons have scored no runs while giving up 45.
