Dr. Jane Harmon, the new Cerritos College president, has been present on the Cerritos College campus since Monday.
Harmon will officially start as president on June 1; however, she is trying to make acquaintances with personnel on campus.
As to how her first day on campus went, Harmon said, “It was wonderful. It was an opportunity to meet many people.”
Harmon is happy that she has found a place to live, has sold her home in New York, and has movers scheduled to bring her belongings to the West Coast in mid-May.
Harmon is also looking for a new car and has looked at the new hybrid models that run on electricity and gasoline. She is considering other options due to the long wait for the hybrids.
“I am learning everything I can from (Interim President) Morgan (Lynn),” Harmon said. “I am trying to make this a seamless transition.”
Harmon recently moved to California from New York, where she served as president of Adirondack Community College in Queensbury, N.Y.
Harmon takes the place of Dr. Fred Gaskin, who left approximately one year ago to work for the Maricopa Community College District in Arizona.
Lynn has served as interim president since Gaskin’s departure.
