Haircut for Hope to help fight breast cancer was held on Sept. 12 from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Cerritos Community College Cosmetology Department.

Each haircut cost $10 which was donated for the fight against Breast Cancer. “We’re hoping to raise $5,000, but we’ll be glad if we can raise $500,” said Cosmetology Instructor Nina Motruk.

The final tally collected was $1228.00. The students who collected the most money received prizes. They were: ? Veronica Solano with $120.00 ? Veronica Esquivias with $110.00 ? Connie Anguiano with $96.00 ? Mavis Knox with $60.00

The top staff collectors were: ? Esther Wilson, evening Instructional Aide II with $195.00? Beverly Keck, receptionist with $84.00

“I love it,” said Accountant Tech Suzie Payne. “I’m a breast cancer survivor and I am here to support the event.”

The Association of Cosmetology Teachers and City of Hope organized the event which is being held at different locations during Sept. 10 to last Firday. Benefits go to the City of Hope National Medical Center and Beckman Research Institute.

Adriana Munoz, Cosmetology major, was one of the 33 cosmetologists on hand at Haircuts for Hope. “I think it is a really good cause,” she said. “Hopefully we are able to raise a significant amount for the cause.”

Haircuts for Hope was held at 10 community colleges throughout southern California.

Participating schools include Santa Monica Community College; LA Trade Tech.; Pasadena Communtiy College; Fullerton Community College; El Camino Community College; Citrus College; Riverside Community College; Goldenwest Community College; San Diego Community College and Cerritos Community College.
