“We did great.” said coach Greg Gascon of the Sacramento Tournament on Sep. 22 in which the team finished second.

Team Captain Josh Johnson, 141 weight-class, and Gabe Barragan, 157 weight-class, both took first place.

Andy Tufnell finished second place in the 184-weight class.

Placing third were 133-pounder Abdule “Prince” Sadek, and 125-pounder Anthony Rodriguez. Democio Page placed fifth in the 133-pound division.

Troy Owen, 174 weight-class, pinned his first opponent, but had to default out of the tournament due to an injured knee.

“We did well even though we did not bring along a 149-pound wrestler, 165 pound wrestler, nor a heavyweight,” said Gascon.

He added that for the next match the team plans to bring along a couple more wrestlers in those weight divisions.

The teams next match is scheduled at Cerritos for Sep. 26 against Santa Ana. It will also be hosting the Cerritos Tournament on Sep. 29.
