Wrestlers continue strong showing

It was another strong showing for the Cerritos College wrestling team.

Coming off a second place finish in the Cerritos Tournament, the Falcons won eight matches to defeat visiting Victor Valley, 37-6 Wednesday at Cerritos.

Josh Johnson (141 lbs.) defeated Jesse Kremer by technical fall, as did Steven Garcia (157 lbs.) over Leo Langarica.

Anthony Rodriguez (125 lbs.) defeated Jose Chavez, also by a technical fall.

“We wrestled tough,” Rodriguez said.

“I stuck to my game plan and came out on top.”

He added that the coaching came through for the team, and the result was everybody on the team “stepping up.”

Marco Lara and Andy Lopez also recorded big wins.

Lara defeated Jordon Goodrich at 149 lbs. and Lopez, at 165 lbs., beat Aaron Miller.

Andy Tuffnell (184 lbs.) and Tad Millane (197 lbs.) each won by forfeit.

Victor Valley’s only win came when Buck Wire pinned Chris Dannon in the 174 lb. weight class.

In the closest match of the night, Abdel Sadik (133 lbs.) defeated Chris Goffredo by a score of 6-1.

The match was scoreless through the first two rounds, then Sadik scored a reversal and two takedowns in the third round to win the match.

Sadik said that Goffredo was strong. ” A tough wrestler.

“He’s one of the toughest wrestlers from that school.

“I just broke him down in the third round, and took out my frustrations on him.”

“God helped me out,” he added.

There was a double forfeit in the heavyweight match because neither team had a wrestler entered in that weight class
