Cerritos wrestlers won seven of their ten matches against host Golden West College and came away with a 35-16 dual meet win over the Rustlers Wednesday.
Steve Garcia pinned his opponent, Justin Hall, in the 157-pound weight class.
Andy Tuffnell (174 pounds), Josh Johnson (149 pounds) and Alvaro Arreola (141 pounds) won their matches.
At 125 pounds, the Falcons’ Anthony Rodriguez defeated Golden West’s Brandon Gushiken by injury default.
Gabriel Barragan (165 pounds) and Damacio Page (133 pounds) won their matches by forfeit.
Tad Millane (184 pounds) was pinned in his match, and Deron Ward was defeated by the Rustlers’ Brian Carrol at 197 pounds.
The Falcons, who do not have a heavyweight wrestler, forfeited the match in that weight class.
Cerritos will host the Halloween Open Tournament Saturday, while some members of the team will compete in the North/South All-Star tournament in Fresno that day.
The Falcons return home Tuesday to face Palomar College at 7 p.m.
Volleyball
The Falcons extended Mount San Antonio College to a fifth and deciding game Wednesday, but the host Mounties prevailed and took the match by scores of 30-22, 31-33, 30-19, 25-30 and 15-11.
Tiffany Amete led Cerritos (5-6, 3-5 in South Coast Conference) with 14 kills. Arelyn Gallardo added 13 and Jessica Baez 11.
Vanessa Cid recorded seven kills and five blocks.
Men’s Water Polo
The Cerritos men’s water polo team won by forfeit at Rio Hondo College Wednesday.
