Four players, led by forward Chrystal Johnson with 17, scored in double figures as the Cerritos women’s basketball team finally put away a pesky Rio Hondo team, 73-64 Friday in the second game of a double-header at Cerritos.

In the first game, Orange Coast beat Chaffey College, 64-41.

The Falcons (12-4) will play Chaffey Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Rio Hondo (7-7) will play Orange Coast in the first game at 5:30 p.m.

Falcons’ forward Tiffany Amete said that the game “shouldn’t have been that close.”

She also said that the team had been “doing really well” in practice while not playing a game in eight days.

The first ten minutes of the second half saw five lead changes.

With 5:35 remaining in regulation and leading 57-55, Cerritos used its team defense to hold the Roadrunners to four more baskets, including a three-point basket at the buzzer when the game was already in hand.

Rio Hondo guard Sidney Giang kept her team in the game by scoring 15 points in the second half. She led all players with 23 points, including five three-pointers.

Forward Antares Vice and guard Elizabeth Rivera scored 12 points each for the Falcons, and Eterei Wong added 10.

Wong and Vice also recorded eight rebounds each, as did Jennifer Decuir.

Rio Hondo center Mayra Sillas scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and forwards Vanessa Fowlkes and Lupe Salceda each scored eight points.
