Former Falcon signs free agent contract

Former Cerritos College offensive lineman Tupe Peko, who was a seventh round draft choice by the New York Jets last season, was signed by the Seattle Seahawks as a free agent. Peko, who was a two-year starter for the Falcons and then at Michigan State, was cut by the Jets on the last day before the start of the season. He is expected to compete for the starting center position against Robbie Tobeck and Chris Gray. However, Peko is capable of playing any position on the offensive line, and came to Cerritos as a tight end before being converted to offensive tackle.

While with the Falcons, Peko was a two-time 1st Team All-Mission Conference Northern Division selection, while earning All-American honors his sophomore season. He was coveted by almost every Division I program, but finally decided to attend Michigan State. He helped anchor their offensive line and they experienced their best season in decades his senior year. He was a 2nd Team All-Big Ten choice as a senior and was selected by the Jets in the seventh round last season.
