An eye for an eye? Cruel and unusual

Capital punishment is unconstitutional, barbaric and has no place in the United States judicial system.

The death penalty defies the constitution and subjects individuals who are given death sentences to cruel and unusual punishment.

The framers wrote the constitution with the goal of creating perfect laws so that American citizens could live free from injustice in a perfect world.

Unfortunately the way the framers envisioned America is not the reality of today .

Our society and justice system is infected with prejudices and weaknesses that make it impossible for justice to prevail in every single trail.

Discrimination, prejudices and trial errors have led to wrong convictions of many individuals who have been put on death row in America.

With the new advancements in technology this fact has been proven time and time again with individuals who were unjustly imprisoned and released after DNA evidence has cleared them of any wrong doing.

These cases alone should be reason enough for the death penalty to be abolished in the United States. A life sentence can always be reversed, death can not.

But even if our justice system was perfect, killing people for committing crimes is reminiscent of the stone age.

Our society would find it immoral and outrageous if our government raped rapists or tortured terrorists, so why is it considered justice to murder murderers?

Maybe it is because the death penalty caters to the human beings natural aggressive instinct for revenge.

After all, revenge is the only logical reason for capital punishment.Incarcerated, felons are not able to cause more harm to society, so essentially justice has already prevailed.

Besides enacting revenge what does the death penalty really accomplish?

Nothing, killing the guilty will not erase their crime and their murder will cost the justice system millions that could have been spent deterring young parole from crime or counseling convicts.

The truth of the matter is, a life sentence is just as effective as the death penalty.

In fact, a life in jail awaiting death is a far better punishment than an instant end of suffering.
