Elemento rocks Cerritos

Campus Crusade for Christ, a club on campus, brought entertainment to Cerritos College in the form of Elemento on April 11.

Elemento is an “American-style Spanish rock” band, according to its bass player, Israel Mondaca.

President of Campus Crusade for Christ Heather Hufenbach, said it’s been an annual event for Campus Crusade to bring bands to Cerritos College.

“It’s just to let people know about Campus Crusade, and it brings students to a center place to listen to music,” Hufenbach said.

Elemento was chosen by the club to perform because Elemento shares the same religious beliefs that Campus Crusade does.

“They preach the word of God to young people,” graphic design major Miguel Ramirez said about Elemento.

The rhythm guitar player for Elemento, Frans Flores, is a member of Campus Crusade for Christ.

“We thought the majority of the campus was Spanish, so we chose them,” Hufenbach said about bringing Elemento to Cerritos.

The band, which is affiliated with a four square church in Downey, Companerismo Cristiano, has been playing together for a year and a half. They plan to have a CD out in the summer.

Campus Crusade for Christ meets on Tuesdays, 11 a.m. – noon in room AC-51. Bible study is regularly held and led by Luciano Riviera, a Cerritos student.
