Walking across the Cerritos College campus is like walking on to the pages of the latest fashion magazine.

From clothes and make-up to jewelry and shoes, the latest fashion trends seem to have hit the campus like a tidal wave.

Students across the campus wake up hours before school just to get their hair just right and make sure that their eye shadow matches perfectly with their shoes.

For many students having the latest J-Lo tank top or Sean John jacket is a bigger accomplishment than getting an A on their term paper or acing a final exam.

When did college turn into a fashion show?

Sadly, it seems that students are putting more effort into looking good for school that obtaining a degree. They’d rather fail a course than to be caught dead wearing a hideous outfit.

But why the obsession with fashion? If it weren’t for the media stressing fashion consciousness on the young population, we’d all be running around campus wearing Pro-Wings and five-for-ten t-shirts.

Television networks such as Mtv and magazines overly emphasize fashion. One of the biggest issues immediately following a major awards show is the fashion.

So what does the impressionable audience do? They run out and buy exactly what J-Lo wore at the shows.

All the while the college men, enjoying every single second a trendy fashionable female bounces across his path. The guys see college as an opportunity to pick up gals. They don’t care what you wear. They’d rather see you naked.

Why not come to school and focus on our grades now and worry about fashion later? Nobody will give a crap how great and expensive your clothes are if you’re still living in your parents basement and working at Taco Bell at the age of 30.

Remember, the best accessory to any outfit is a college degree.
