Harmon resigns presidency

The Board of Trustees of the Cerritos Community College District accepted the resignation of College President, Dr. Jane Harmon, at a special Board meeting on July 1.

Dr. Harmon had been President of the 23,000-student college since June 2001. Her resignation was effective immediately, however, she later rescinded her resignation and was placed on administrative leave by the college.

Harmon, who holds a Ph.D. from the distinguished Community College Leadership program at the University of Texas, has had a long career in community college administration, serving colleges in Minnesota and New York before coming to Cerritos.

The Board of Trustees appointed Mr. John Grindel, Vice President of Academic Affairs/Provost, as acting president until further notice.

“We’ve got talented people in leadership roles throughout the College,” said Board Vice President John Moore. “We know they’ll keep the college moving forward while we search for a new president.”

He added that all of the Board wishes Dr. Harmon well and thank her for her service to Cerritos College.
