Roese CSEA’s 2002 ‘Unsung Hero’

Every year the California School Educators Association (CSEA) distinguish a classified employee for their commitment to excellence with an “Unsung Hero” award.

On June 1, Cerritos College’s Gus Roese was the recipient of this title. The Los Angeles East and West Field Offices held the Ninth Annual California School Employees Association Recognition Awards Banquet to honor Roese and others at the Doubletree Inn in Pasadena.

Roese has been an employee of Cerritos College since December of 1973 and has been serving the College for the past 29 years as an Automotive Maintenance Technician.

During this time, he has also been actively involved with the CSEA serving as the president in 1983 as well as advising current and former presidents of the organization.

Between the years 1983 and 1997, Roese found time to either serve on the Negotiations Team or was a part of the Negotiations Committee only taking a break from the work for three of the 14 years.

Roese hopes to continue working at Cerritos College in the Automotive Department as well as remaining active in the CSEA.

With Roese’s acquired knowledge from his experience, he is able to educate the students and faculty at Cerritos and will continue to do so during his remaining time here.

CSEA is the largest classified school employees union in the United States, representing more than 190,000 public employees in California. For more information about the organization, log on to www.csea.com.
