Club wins national award

Valerie Streeter, president of the Psychology club, accompanied six of the psychology club members to the National American Psychological Association’s annual conference last weekend.

This year, the conference was held in Chicago, where Cerritos College’s Psi Beta Chapter and Psychology Club won the Outstanding Chapter award.

Psychology Club members Krista Toilolo, Nichelle Long, Jaime Vanderpool, Dipti Shah, Adriana Cortez and the club president, Streeter accepted the award on the behalf of the whole club, which contains approximately 15 members.

The award was given to the club because of its dedication to the campus and community, the outstanding academics of the students in the club and the community service preformed by the club members.

Club members can often be found organizing and conducting fundraisers on campus and volunteering at the Metropolitan State Mental Hospital.

Faculty Advisor to the club, Dr. Kimberley Duff noted that out of all the community colleges attending the conference in Chicago, Cerritos was the only one to win this award.

The club, which meets every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon in Room SS215, brings in psychology and law specialists to speak to the students.

Duff was happy to report that the club considered the conference to be an overall great experience.
