Cerritos pulled past the No. 3 ranked team in the league Saturday night, beating the College of the Canyons, 39-32.
Sophomore running back Jermaine White led the Falcons with 173 yards and three touchdowns in the second quarter.
At the end of the game, Whiten had 21 carries for 308 yards and four touchdowns. His longest runs being 72 and 84 yards. He was able to break the schoools single-game rushing record.
This is the second game that the Falcons were able to put away an opponent with a higher ranking.
“The team showed poise and responded well after the big game against Bakersfield” Head Coach Frank Mazzotta said.
Penalty, held the Falcons from putting the game away. With a couple of flag’s thrown against the Falcons, the Cougar get put in excellent field position and march down to the one yard line.
The Falcons “D” led by middle linebacker Justin Burks, who helped stop the Cougars three down’s in a row on the goal line.
“This game showed us how we will look in games to come, and it only gets harder from here” Mazzotta said.
The Cougars scored late in the fourth quarter, which brought them back into the game with a chance to win. They tried an onside kick, but it was unsuccessful. The Falcons sit on the ball to run the time out and secure victory. College of the Canyons 32, Cerritos 39
