Football: Defense looking strong, going into next week’s game against Fullerton

Falcons defense has set the tempo in the last two games, led by Justin Burks who stepped up in Saturday night’s game against College of the Canyons.

“We’re doing pretty good. We’re new and improved and we’re definitely going to win. Especially on defense,” Burks said.

Burks, help the Falcons shut out the No.1 ranked team in Southern California, the Bakersfield Renegades’ leaving them scoreless.

“He holds the “D” together, and is an all around player,” Defensive Coordinator Pat Callahan said.

The linebackers are the strongest part of the defense. With two out of three players returning from last season and Burks being one of them.

The D-line is a physical group of athletes, and communicates well with one another on the field.

In the secondary, Falcons have three out of four returning. Michael Bragg, Doug Stewart, and Burnell Jordan are experience d on the playing field and have what it takes, to make it happen in game situation.

“I’m the fastest cornerback in the Mission Conference,” Jordan said. Callahan said, “This year’s secondary plays on the edge. When players do what their suppose to on the field, things will function right.”
