A guy walks into classroom and notices two girls sitting in the corner. One is really girly. She’s giggling a lot and is twirling her hair. The other is more assertive. She is in a debate with someone over economics. Yet both are beautiful.

Now imagine that both are majoring in Microbiology. Then why is one acting like she couldn’t spell her name if her life depended on it? For years, women seem to have been taking their own intelligence for granted. No woman can deny the feeling of acting fragile and helpless once in a while to draw a guy in, but lately most women are abusing the privilege.

I’ve noticed more and more that women seem to downplay intelligence when they are around a man.

Jessica Ann Jue, 18, a Cerritos College student is fed up with it. “I think that girls who act helpless around guys degrade the character of what a girl is capable of living up to.”

Even women in the business world are looked down upon by men. I have a friend of the family who is a woman. She has raised 2 children on her own, she is a successful representative for Sauza liquor, has only a high school diploma, and has basically made an awesome life for herself.

But some of the men in my family don’t like her. “It’s because of how she carries herself. There’s just something I don’t like,” my uncle states.

Could it be because she is successful? Or is it because she’s successful and she’s not afraid to show it?

Still, beyond the fake giggles and lip-gloss, lie men who supposedly like more intelligent and assertive women. Yet Jue thinks, “boys still want to feel superior by out smarting or being stronger than the female gender. Regardless of what they say.”

Steven Gabriel, 19, a student at Cal State Long Beach is not amused by women’s portrayal to be the weaker sex. “I think girls act lame because they want guys to see them as the passive type so the guy can be assertive. It’s like reverse psychology.”

So you see girls, not even men are being fooled by it anymore. Do yourselves a favor. Embrace the fact that we were born with more than one brain cell. If you are a full time student, a mom, or working full time that deserves an award all in itself. Give yourself credit and know that a guy should like you no matter what.
