“Fall Dance Concert Preview”

The Cerritos College dance department is putting on a Fall Dance Concert in the month of November.

The show consists of 12 pieces and 70 dancers all of whom are students.

Auditions are usually held in the dance studio on the first Saturday of each semester. Students in the class show up and choreographers select which piece they wish them to perform.

Janet Sanderson, who is in charge of the Fall Dance Concert, is looking forward to seeing the show open with a bang. “Everyone’s been working so hard. With midterms here. We have weekend rehearsals, late night rehearsals, and late afternoon rehearsals.”

All of the faculty choreographed work’s range from modern, jazz, ballet, and world dance. And not only does it simply include jazz, it also includes commercial jazz, theatrical jazz, and world jazz.

The concert also includes a wide range of performance skills including beginners through professional dancers. Guest artist Moonea Choi will also be starring in the concert.

Choi grew up in Seoul, Korea. It was there that she completed her master’s degree from Kyung Hee University. Upon moving to California, Choi received her MFA (Master of Fine Arts) in Dance at CSULB. Her choreography has been involved in many things such as the 1995 Dance Kaleidoscope Festival at Loyola Marymount University and the 2002 Solo & Duet Festival at the Fountain Theatre.

Choi will also be joining the Cerritos College Dance Faculty in Spring 2003.

An exciting addition to the show is two Latin numbers, which include faculty members Dennon Rawles and Phoenix Cole.

“We always sell out,”said Sanderson, “So I suggest buying tickets in advance. It’s a lot of fun. It’s different. Our main goal is to encourage people to take a dance class.”

The Fall Dance concert will be held On November 7, 8, and 9 in Burnight Center Theatre. It will start at 8 p.m. and is $5 for general admission.
