What will the competition be like at this year’s Halloween costume contest? Who will walk away with the awards?

These questions will be addressed in true form, as students gather in Falcon Square Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded in several categories, which will include scariest, most creative, cutest and funniest.

The only entry requirement is that students show up in costume. There is no pre-sign up. All one must do is come in costume and sign up on sight.

Trudy Foster is a staff member in the Student Activities Department who has seen several of these events that are held annually. She is very optimistic about this year’s potential turn out.

What makes this year any different?

This year Halloween falls on a Thursday and Thursday is the day events are scheduled for.

“People are more willing to get dressed up on Halloween, then on say, Thursday the thirtieth,” Foster said.

Past Halloween costume contests have gone very good. People have showed up in everything from a gory hatchet in the head get-up to M & M’s and their bag.

That particular costume won the “Best Group” category several years ago, according to Trudy.

It is not certain whether the Best Group Costume category will be in effect this year.

“If we have tons of really cool costumes we will have more prizes. However, only two or three people, we can only have first, second and third place prizes,” Foster said.

This event goes back at least three or four years. Contestants can choose which category they want to sign up for. The judges have been selected among staff and there will be a DJ to keep the event very festive. There will also be food and refreshments served. Several clubs will be having bake sales and Arby’s will be serving roast beef sandwiches.
