Oral Cancer Screenings

With October being Dental Hygiene Month the group Student American Dental Hygiene Association (S.A.D.A.H.A.) set up a table outside of the campus library in hopes to educate students about oral cancer and the dangers it can cause.

“The students answered a lot of questions about oral cancer and hopefully gave out some life saving information” said Adelle Krayer, Director of Senior Clinic Dental Hygiene Program.

S.A.D.A.H.A. feels like they should be giving back to Cerritos College and are doing so by handing out pamphlets about oral cancer.

The group will also be selling toothbrushes, baked goods, and whitening kits to help promote what they feel is a good cause “the theme for this year is oral cancer,” said Krayer, “we want to promote dental hygiene on the campus.”

Adelle Krayer also commented that they were very impressed with how the event went, and that lots of students asked lots of questions. “Our students gave out approximately 150 pamphlets.”

The oral cancer screenings will also take place on Oct. 30 and 31 in front of the library. Over the next couples days they are hoping for more students to attend and ask questions. “I would think that we students because there are more activities going on in the quad’ said Krayer.

The group has also been involved in other events and programs such as the A.I.D.S walk in Los Angeles that took place 2 weeks ago. As different events and walks happen, S.A.D.A.H.A. will be there to help support the cause. Nothing right now is scheduled for them other than the homecoming float building contest.
