Help select school’s top teachers

They’re unselfish, and dedicated to the college. They’re involved in clubs and student activities. They’re the favorite teachers, counselors and coaches. They’re the outstanding faculty members and now is the time to recognize them.

Once again it’s time to nominate faculty for the Outstanding Faculty Awards. The awards recipients will be announced in the spring and the awards ceremony will be held April 24, but it’s time to nominate now. The deadline to turn in nominations is Dec. 9.

Nomination applications can be found in the library, student computer lab, Student Activities office, the admissions and records building, DSPS office, health occupations building, Liberal Arts building, Fine Arts building, Technology, Humanities, Physical Education, Physical Science, Natural Science and the Faculty Senate office.

Any and all faculty members can be nominated. Part-time, full-time, teaching, non-teaching, counselors, librarians and faculty in student services are all eligible for nomination.

“Often people come and do their work here and go unrecognized. There are outstanding faculty everywhere but it’s nice to recognize someone you think has done an outstanding job,” Chair of the committee Valencia Mitchell said.

Anyone nominated should be considered outstanding in their teaching, coaching and/or guidance and they should show unselfish dedication to students and the college.

There are other factors that can weigh in when deciding whether a faculty member is eligible for nomination. If the person has been involved with publications or grant writing, is involved with clubs or student activities, volunteers, serves the community as a representative of the college, or has been involved with art exhibits, concerts and public performances, then they are eligible to be nominated.

All currently enrolled students and college employees can nominate.

Last springs most outstanding faculty award was given to Dr. Ina Zive, professor of dental hygiene.
