Dear Editor,

I was reading the Talon Marks issue on Wed., Dec. 11, and surprisingly noticed the article on abortion. I know that abortion is a very controversial subject and respect the author’s pro life opinion (Lauren Rodriguez), but this has given me the opportunity to express my point of view.

No offense to the Catholic Church and the Bible, but the Church and their beliefs can sometimes be hypocritical. For example, gay priests having sex with young boys, yet it is opposed by the Church. With that in mind, my comment is to not include religious beliefs when a woman is making one of the biggest decisions of her life.

According to Saint Thomas Aquinas, sexual intercourse should only exist between a couple for the sole purpose of creating offspring within wedlock…what about rape???? There are thousands of young girls and women being raped every year and as a consequence of it, produce a fetus. Is it fair for both the mother and the fetus to reminice such a horrible experience?

I agree that no one should end another persons life, however, I feel that there are extreme situations where abortion is the right choice.I believe that a woman should not use abortion for a method of birth control but under certain circumstances, even though emotionally and physically painful, it is best for both.
