A disgraced white cop Hank Rafferty ( Steve Zahn ) was stripped of his badge, after Earl accused uptight ploice officer Hank of harassmrnt. teams up with an African-american man Earl Montgomery ( Martin Lawrence) who would probaly be a good cop if it werent for his rebellious behavior. When his attitude gets him kicked out of the police academy, he can only find employment as a lowly security guard at “National Security” as well. Together they work to bust smuggling operations, that Earl’s overzealous style of police work leads to the discovery of a sophisticated smuggling operation, led by Nash ( Eric Roberts ) and a possible ploice cover-u. now everyone wants Earl and Hank dead – though they just may kill each other first. I think National Security was a very well written comedy by Dennis Dugan. He had all the right cast members for this comedy movie. Martin Lawrence has always played a good cop role so he was the best. I have never seen a white cop and a African-american cop play a role together so good. “National Security”, a funny , racous action comedy, effectively teams Martin Lawrence and Steve Zahn in a film thats both laugh out loud funny and surprisingly subtle. Wouldnt you know? Both end up as guards in the employ of the Notional Security Co. And can it come as a surprise that the two, albeit reuctantly, unite to go after a team of smugglers ( headed by a silver-haired Eric Roberts)? as elementary and familiar as it is, this plot proves rock-solid sturdy for all that writers Jay Scherick and David Ronn hvae in mind. it allows for a series of amusingly outrageous action set pieces and also plenty of room for Lawrence’s always-provocative freewheelng humor.
