Club info day

Many clubs were lined up along Falcon Square promoting themselves to potential members on Tuesday during Club Information Day.

The main purpose of this event is to allow, new and continuing students, to check out many of the clubs and organizations that are available to them on campus.

Most of the clubs that participated in Club Info Day are academic or curricular clubs, like Future Teachers Club, Phi Theta Kappa and the Marketing and Advertisement Club.

Tony Del Rio, who served in the Air Force for 24 years, and is now working toward a teaching degree said, “This semester we will have a panel with veteran teachers as well as first-year teachers and a school principal.”

During this event Del Rio, informed potential members about the panel that will take place later on in the semester and also about teaching conferences that are sponsored by Washington Mutual Bank.

Another academic club that participated in Club Info Day was Phi Beta Lambda (Business Club.)

Danielle Tolentino, club historian, has been part of this organization since high school.

“It’s a great way to network with the business world no mater what your major is, networking is something you need to be successful in life.”

The Administration of Justice Club is a club that focuses mainly on law enforcement majors and careers.

Jorge Velazquez, an alumni member said, “We require that student’s who want to join, take an A. J. class and they must have a 2.5 G.P.A.”

The only social club participating was the Salsa Club.

A few of its members were out dancing and recruiting new members.

“We want to get the club going, teach what we can and get together at the end of the semester with a DJ and a live band,” said David Rodriguez, President of the club.

The Cosmetology Club was also out there.

They were giving $3 haircuts and $2 manicures to raise money for hair dryers and supplies for their classes.

“We’re promoting the cosmetology department. We’re on the other side of the campus and want people to know we’re there,” said Brenda Morales, vice president.

Psychology student Erick Nunez, signed up in the Astronomy Club booth.”I’ve always been interested in space and I figured that by joining this club, it will help me learn something new.”

Club Info Day is an event that takes place at the beginning of spring and fall semesters.

For a complete list of clubs visit the Student Activities Office, located next to the bookstore.
