While opening the South Coast Conference last week the Cerritos College softball team suffered a tough 6-1 loss to El Camino.

The Falcons spotted the Warriors a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning and were down 6-0 before scoring their lone run in the sixth inning.

The team followed with a tough 4-3 home loss to Saddleback in a non-conference game, but did rebound to defeat Glendale, 15-1 in a shortened game.

The team is now 5-5 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. The team had the dubious distinction of heading to Long Beach City last Tuesday and will have faced the powerful Vikings before facing East Los Angeles on the road on Thursday, with both games scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

After falling behind Saddleback 1-0, the Falcons responded with three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead.

With one out, Silvia Park hit a single and advanced to second base on a fielder’s choice by Michelle Santillan.

Jade Wilson followed with a base bit to put runners on first and third.

Heather Martin drove in a run with a single before Danielle Ackland reached a base on a throwing error by the Gaucho’s first baseman, which scored the other two runs.

After the Gauchos cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fifth inning, the Gauchos took advantage of a passed ball to score a run.

An outfield error was made by the Falcons when a fly ball was hit to right field which gave the Gauchos the other run the Gauchos needed to pull out a 4-3 win.

Against Glendale, Cerritos immediately put the game out of reach by scoring 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning.

The early blow was when the bases were loaded with a three-run double by Manisha Vadgama.

Santillan drove in two with a double and Ackland added a two-run triple as well.

Erin Brown closed out the game by scoring a two-run triple in the third inning.
