In a unanimous decision the ASCC Cabinet reconsidered to vote on the Model UN club funding proposal that was denied on Mar. 22 on Apr. 3.

Also, Esemeralda Cardenas, commissioner of Student Financial Aid announced that beginning in the fall semester the Federal BOGG waiver will no longer cover the parking, lab, and student health fees.

Cynthia Ho, commissioner of budget and finance said that the one concern was the amount of discrepancy that was presented by the Model UN of $200.

“However, after speak to Roberto Molina, secretary general, and William Jaluppo, vice president of information, all of the discrepancies have been straighten out,” she said.

She added that everything was in order after speaking to both Molina and Jaluppo that any additional cost that comes up will be “coming out of the Model UN members’ pockets.”

On March 22 in a 3-4 vote the ASCC Cabinet denied the Model UN club funding proposal of $1,713.50 for eight students and one adviser.

ASCC President Paulo Amaral said that the main concern brought up by the ASCC Senate was how ready the Model UN club was ready for the conference and was it ready to represent Cerritos College.

ASCC Vice President Charlene Angsuco suggested that mock conferences be held and those mock conferences will be.

On April 11 the ASCC will be holding mock conference along with Long Beach City College in order to prepare the Model UN for the conference on April 21 through April 25 in San Francisco in order for the members to be prepared.

Christopher Olivares, commissioner of convocations and fine arts, said that although he initially voted against the proposal he now supports the reconsideration of voting for it on April 17.

“Having been on the Talon Marks for five semester I know understand what it takes to be prepared,” he said, “and I think that the (Model UN) club should be given a chance because they deserve (to be given a chance).”

Lastly, Cardenas said that BOGG fee waiver will only cover the student I.D. beginning in the fall semester.
