Clubs members held an anti-war protest at Falcon Square on Jan. 18 in response to President George W. Bush’s calling for more troops to be sent to fight the war on terrorism.

The clubs involved in the protest were:

• Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance
• Puente Club
• MEChA Club
• Sociology Club

Those who were involved said that President Bush was mistaken after he spoke on Jan. 10 saying that more troops were needed.

Waleed Nueirat, English and economics major, said about the protest, “This was a chance for those who care about the war and what’s happening overseas to have a voice as well as an opinion.”

He added that the clubs are hoping to create a change within government and to let others know that people care about what’s happening with the troops and the war.

Nueirat continued saying that the clubs will continue to hold anti-war protest against Bush’s latest recommendation every Thursday this semester.

However, Eric Gonzalez, communications major, had a different point of view about whether or not there is going to be change within the government and the war.

“It’s reality about what is happening in Iraq,” he said. He also said that no matter who would be the next president of the United States that there will be no end to the war anytime soon.

As for the clubs who were demonstrating, he said, “All of the members are just wasting their time.”

Ivette Ruiz, FMLA member, said the students should be protesting everyday against the war.

“Young people do care about what is going on and also what is happening around the world.”
