The disease that is torture

Torture is barbaric and has no use in the free world. It is a disease that will spread if its practice continues.

There needs to be a worldwide initiative to stop torture altogether or minimize it to a point where it is just a figment of our imaginations.

What kind of message does it send to those who are being tortured?

It just shows the dark side of humanity and how desperate certain people can get.

Torturing a human being takes on a whole other level of thinking.

To torture someone is to basically kill their spirit.

Why can’t we use peaceful means to change the minds of people?

Wartime does not justify an excuse for torture.

However, a question arises. What if you get a chance to save thousands of people and all you have do to is torture the person that might know the information that you need to save those people being threatened?

One thing that can be said is that, there are always other ways to handle the problems that may come.

The problem that arises from torture is that it only promotes more destructive behavior. It gives more reasons to promote more violence.

Any type of torture should not be tolerated, in fact it should be banned.

The events that led up to the capture of Osama were caused by the torture of prisoners in order to get his whereabouts, but that only sends a wrong message to terrorists.

The message being sent is that the U.S. is heartless and should be destroyed, Osama was just a figure head.

His power was depleted from all the cat and mouse games he was playing with the U.S, so there was no reason for the tactics that were used to get Osama.

There is a certain logic that a person is who going through torture will only reveal information that the person who is initiating the torture wants to hear.

Isn’t our goal as nations to have a world united in peace? A world where we can handle issues with ideas, love and respect toward other individuals that inhabit this world.

Luis Guzman
Luis Guzman, Managing Multimedia Editor
Fall 2014 Hey guys and gals, my name is Luis Guzman. I am journalism student at Cerritos College, I’ve been going there for about three years now. I have been involved with Talon Marks, the newspaper for Cerritos College, for five semesters. I have done mostly everything there is to do in Talon Marks; covering breaking news, page design, video production, podcast production, and photography. I like to read in my off time, mostly books about science fiction and horror. I also like to write fiction of my own, mostly poetry and short fiction. The career I have in mind would involve anything that has to do with creative writing and maybe writing some articles for newspapers here and there.
