Justin – Halloween Haunt Theater Department

Susan Watanabe took her theater department class to Knotts Scary Farm, on Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., not to get on the rides, but to see what its like working backstage applying make-up to the monsters at the attraction.

There were zombies, bears, cowboys, dolls, and many other scary monsters you can think of at Knotts, Cerritos college students had the privilege to work with these individuals that evening.

“It’s a pretty good experience, I liked meeting new make-up artists and monster.” Stephanie Trigg, undecided major said. “It was also cool running into people I had met here the year before.”

Phillip Hernandez, a make-up artist, let one of the students apply make-up on one of the delirium dolls.

“It is awesome doing this,” Elisa Hernandez, cosmetology major said. “It’s my first time here, I would like to come back if I can.”

We have over 1000 employees and 13 different scare areas. In Ghost Town we have the original ghost town, the old school cowboys.” Denise said. ” We have the doll house, where this doctor goes and gets these girls and turns them into demented dolls.”

Basically this year, Knotts has more rides than ever before, more monsters to scare people. Tickets are $56 and these are the final two weeks that Halloween Haunt will run.

Douglas Murphy one of the make-up artists for the zombies has worked with them for only a year. “It takes 30 minutes to apply a foam latex application including paint time, but besides that paint and powder takes 15 minutes. I work with 7 to 9 people a night. There is a second team who takes the make-up off of the monster’s face.”

Steven Lomeli, photography major had a chance to work with a zombie and apply make-up on it. “It’s pretty awesome, and I plan to come back either to be a monster or to put make-up on the monsters.”

A bear that chases people in ghost town said, “it get’s very hot when I chase teenage girls, but it’s fun. They love to run.”

“This is my second time, I came last year. I enjoyed it.” Kathy Long, theater arts major said. “We observe how the artists puts on the make-up. We basically do what they ask us to do.”
