The Cerritos College Theater Department held auditions Feb. 14 for the upcoming musical, “Reefer Madness,” which opens May 6 in the Burnight Center Theatre.

Auditions were held on a stage where the “triple threat” would be the best fit for a musical about reefer and madness.

Patrick Pearson directs this musical, accompanied by Hector Salazar, musical director and Kelly Todd, choreographer.

Cerritos College Theater Department Chair Georgia Well described having a diverse set of abilities to include acting, singing, and dancing as a “triple threat.”

“Those who can do both are more valuable as performers and have many more opportunities to perform,” Well said.

The auditions gave students the opportunity to display their talents, but each student had their own reasons for auditioning.

Felicia Buffington, theater major, said she was interested in auditioning for this musical both because of an opportunity to work with the director again, and an appreciation for the show itself.

“I have worked with the director before, he’s really amazing. I love the show, having watched it millions of times at my house on DVD. It’s definitely eye opening and informative, very avant garde,” Buffington said.
