Mothman Prophecies

The Mothman Prophecies, based on true events, explains the supernatural events that took place in Point Pleasant, Virginia. The movie, directed by Mark Pellington, gives the audience a detailed intimate look at the bizarre events involving the legendary Mothman.

Richard Gere and Laura Linney deliver convincing performances that will keep the audience at the edge of their seat, ready to dash out of the theatre, that is. Though the Mothman doesn’t make any physical appearances, he does make a couple of revealing phone calls that will leave the audience questioning the authenticity of the so-called “true” events.

Washington Post reporter, John Kline (Gere), goes for a short drive and ends up in Point Pleasant, Virginia, hundreds of miles away from home. The small town is plagued by bizarre occurances and haunted by a Moth-like creature. The extraordinary episodes are linked to impending disasters. Kline hopes to link the supernatural events to the mysterious death of his wife, that took place a couple of years earlier.

The Mothman Prophecies is ideal for those who believe in supernatural and are enticed by the unknown. I do not recommend this movie to skeptics nor people with short attention spans as the movie tends to lag at moments.

Mark Pellington could have made the movie a little move interesting. He had the right plans and facts, but instead of running with the idea, he lagged and consequently produced an ordinary film that made little or no impression on the audience.

I was very dissapointed with the movie. I was hoping to see the Mothman. But the darn thing never did make an appearance. So now, like the rest of the audience, I am still curious to see the Mothman.Instead, I sat there wishing it’d end soon and wondering whether the events really did take place or if they are just a fragment of a population’s overactive imagination.
