Not a parking space

Not a parking space

With seven parking lots available for students to park in, studentsfind themselves parking as far as the strawberry fields behind the Senior Center.

Students, then have to walk towards their classes and still make it there on time. Many have seen the dirt parking gaps in parking lot C-10.The biggest parking lot for students on campus.

Students that have driven to school, one time or another have seen a parked car in the dirt gap and noticed that the driver didn’t receive a parking ticket, so students are tempted to park there too.

Will tickets be given to the car if it’s not parked right, at parking lot C-10?Many ask the question whether this is a parking space or just another gap?

If the vehicle has a current permit and the space is open, should the student receive a parking ticket?

According to the campus police website, “parking violations will be cited. Citations will be issued to any vehicle on campus not properly displaying a current valid parking permit. Citations are written by Traffic Control Officers who are also on patrol campus wide for your safety and assistance.”

Not one word mentions about the gaps, with the parking lot over jammed and students fighting for parking space in order to be in class on time.

The question is raised, whether if the dirt gaps a parking space or not?

“No, it’s not a line up parking space,” said Wayne Rector, Parking Coordinator, regarding the dirt gaps on parking lot C-10.

However students feel differently about this situation.”I think that they should cover it [the gaps] up so people can park there,” Christ Diers said.

And student Gabby Fernandez said, “I guess if they [students] don’t know the first time, they [traffic control] should just give them a warning, if they [students] keep doing it then, yeah give them [students] the ticket.”

Others feel cheated like student Loren Orivaltos, said, “On the first day of school I parked there and they tried to give me a ticket, luckily I was in the car before they could issued it. I think they should just cover it up and make it into a parking space. We paid $20. We should be able to park there.”

The dirt gaps are not valid parking spaces; students will have to find another parking space to park in.

All of these questions are clear now.

But it leaves one unanswered question. The spaces of are there for what?
