MacFair is a success

Although many students are acquainted only with seeing the student center bustling with hungry lunch goers, Saturday was met with an entirely different crowd.

It was bustling. But no one was there to eat.

Nearly 1000 people showed up from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm to enjoy the Southern California MacFair 2002.

“We were amazed at how smooth it went,” Show Manager, Keith Mueller said.

Between 40 exhibitors and vendors, 24 seminars and 12 California Mac User Groups, the center was packed, even in comparison to 12:30 on a Monday afternoon.

Some of the more notable exhibitors included: Apple Computer, Aladdin Systems, MYOB, Movieworks, Provue, CoolMacStuff.com and Diamond Soft.

Kevin Langdon, of the CoolMacStuff.com booth commented on his merchandise: “We have all the fun toys.” Fair attendees flocked to this booth to play with innovative products such as a silent, flexible, waterproof keyboard.

At the Unitek booth, Joe L. Alvarez displayed a less-than-palm-sized digital camera and impressed onlookers with their pictures as they walked by. “We’ve been using this all day,” he said.

Attendees seemed impressed. Mac user, Gary Marston said, “I found a lot of interesting things here.”

Both he and his friend, Phillip Aaron commented that the fair had been an entertaining way to spend Saturday afternoon.

Marston said, “Girls and Macs-how can you go wrong?”

The fair has been work in progress since June, when Mueller began to set up the idea and run it through the school. Mueller worked with Toni Grijalva, Program Facilitator for the Applied Technology Education Center, to produce Saturday’s event.

Mueller was overwhelmingly pleased with day. “The Teleconference Center was incredible. Vendors were thrilled with the facilities and the help from Cerritos College. What was really gratifying was how smooth it went.”

He gave the example of the need for electricity to come through the light poles for the outdoor vendors.

He said, the campus electrician was, “there within an hour.”

Vendors too enjoyed the campus resources.

At the eye-candy filled AmericasPrinter.com booth, Jose Tobar said, “I’m really impressed with the facilities,”

In addition to the fair, the food court was also open for the day.

There was a clown monitored dunking booth where children (or adults) could throw a ball and dunk a PC.

Mueller said, “I wish I could say more about the college, but I don’t have the words. You can’t wipe the smile off my face.”
