Women’s Basketball swept out of Sequoias tournament in two

After such a promising start, the Cerritos College women’s basketball team is looking to break out of a three-game losing streak. The Falcons (7-3) were swept in two games at the College of the Sequoias Tournament over the weekend, as they lost to Solano (65-56) and Moorpark (64-59). This week, Cerritos will host Riverside at 5:30 p.m. in their only action.

In their loss to Solano, Cerritos trailed the entire game and were victimized by turnovers and low shooting percentage. On the game, the Falcons were just 8-of-30 from three-point range, while they committed 19 turnovers. They were a combined 16-for-62 (26%) from the field.

Leading the team was sophomore guard Marci Wong, who scored 17 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists. She was the only Falcon to score in double-figures, while freshman forward LaVonne Amete pulled down 12 rebounds, with sophomore guard Nicole McCarthy and freshman forward Shannah Aiono each adding nine points.

The Falcons cut down on their three-point shooting in the game against Moorpark, but made just 4-of-17, while they still committed 17 turnovers.

Sophomore center Tiffany Amete led all scorers with 15 points, while she also added five rebounds. Wong finished with 11 points and three assists, with freshman Jennifer Weathers leading with team with seven boards. McCarthy added 12 points, with Aiono contributing six rebounds.
