Cerritos over Harbor down the stretch.

The Cerritos College men’s basketball edged the L.A. Harbor City College Seahawks, 62-56, on Wednesday.

Cerritos came into the game on a two-game losing streak that included a disappointing loss to Long Beach City College 84-77.

The Falcon’s coach Gary Cain said that after the Long Beach loss they weren’t about to take Harbor lightly, a Harbor team that came in to the contest at 7-13.

“They’ve lost a lot of close games to several good teams much like us this season, ” Cain said.

Even though the Falcons had managed a more respectable 12-11 record going in to the game Wednesday.

The game began slowly with Cerritos only scoring 20 points at the half, but the Seahawk’s did not take advantage of the slow start scoring only 24 themselves.

The leaders in the first half for Cerritos and Harbor were Tezarray Banks C, with 7-points for the Falcons and Lynn Grayson G contributed 13 for the Seahawks.

Cerritos trailed the entire game until the final three minutes of the game when Banks according to coach Cain “had some very big rebounds.” He also had six clutch points in the final minutes.

The Falcons led by Banks and Terrell Hendricks, who did not score in the first half but finished the game with 12 points, after taking the lead late did not relinquish it and held off Grayson and the Seahawks.

Grayson the Seahawk’s scoring threat in the first half was limited to one successful field goal and four free-throws, for a total of six in the half and 19 in the game.

The Seahawks other points leader was Jeramie Hopson who had 12 points in the effort.

Cerritos improved to 13-10 and 1-1 in conference play. While Harbor drops to seven games under .500 and a record of 7-14 and 1-1 in conference play.

The road for Cerritos only gets harder with tough South Coast Conference opponents ahead in their schedule.

Luckily the Falcons will host four out of their last seven games.

Cerrito’s will attempt to go into that seven game stretch with a win against Compton City College.
