Recruitment day at Cerritos College

Recruitment day at Cerritos College

As the clock struck 11, students poured out of their classes just in time for lunch while finding themselves in the middle of a job fair.

This past Tuesday, employers handed out flyers to students while getting the chance to fill out applications. From 10am-1pm, job recruiters sat at their stationed tables while talking to prospective students about future employment.

One of the many offered employment opportunities that were present on recruitment day that is known for their great fitness programs was Bally Total Fitness Center.

Bally offers part time and full time positions ranging from becoming a membership consultant, personal trainer, group instructor, retail sales associate, or Kid’s Club Attendant.

All jobs offered through Bally Total Fitness are flexible to any student’s schedule. Working for them can enhance students with better communication skills, working as a team and making new friends.

Not only will students be working and making money, but they will also get to enjoy free membership along with other helpful benefits as part of their appreciation for their services.

A well-known recruiting service around Cerritos College called Vector Marketing, which offers customer service and sales opportunities were also here on campus.

Vector helps their employees sell their finest product, Cutco, which are a wide range of kitchen knives and train their employees to be great retailers. The only requirement is to have a high school diploma. Hours are flexible for students who want to make their own hours.

After Vector selects whom they want to hire, employees are expected to buy their own knife kit for demonstrations, make appointments with family members or friends, and to dress nice.

Every appointment lasts 45 minutes to an hour. Employees earn $16 for every appointment even if they don’t sell anything. Students can even get college credit while making money at the same time.

Besides companies such as these, organizations such as the FBI, NAVY, and Girl Scouts were also present.

Another student, Rony Khan, an International Business Aviation major, spotted by the Anaheim Marriott table says, ” I want to work in an office. I think working in one would be fun. I heard people who work in offices are nice.”

Girl Scouts of Greater Long Beach, a known club among young girls and teenagers ages 5-17 years are in need for a community program leader.

Interested women who are over 18 years or older, have a valid driver’s license and have available transportation, and be drug tested and finger printed after 2 weeks of employment are a must if planning to be a leader.

Leaders work during the weekday’s and sometimes work on weekends. No experience is required, though having experience in either youth programs, arts and crafts, or counseling is helpful.

Leaders not only prepare girl scouts with a fun class and crafts, but they also focus on developing social relationships with their young members by being a role model while helping them with their self-esteem or self-values.

Moses Rodriguez, a Computer Science major, says, “Yea I’m looking for a job that pays pretty good and works around my schedule, though I’m not sure what I really want to do. That’s why I’m here today to look for some good luck.”
