The Cerritos Men’s Basketball team edged the Los Angeles Southwest Cougars 72-71 Friday in a tale of two halves.

Cerritos came in on a 2 game wining streak and a record of 15-11.The game began poorly for the Cougars sending the Falcons to the free-throw line a total of 9 times in the first half. Cerritos capitalized on the opportunity scoring 12 points by converting 12-14 attempts.

Tony Roberts Led the Falcons in scoring with 14 points in the first half alone. He also contributed with six rebounds and two assists.

Despite 12 points from the Cougars leading scorer Jason Perry the Falcons led the Cougars 38-33 at half.

The second half was unkind to the Falcons seeing them only make 10-25 free-throw attempts. Roberts the Falcon’s leading scorer in the firsthalf only had 4 points and finished the game with 18 points.

Malcohm Heron who was relatively quiet in the first half of play with only 4 points had 7 points in the second half and was the only falcon to make more than half his free throws. He finished the night with 11 points and 5 rebounds.

The Cougars turnaround player at the half was Michael Ford who only scored 4 points in the first half finished the night with 22 points by scoring 18 in the second half and single handedly kept the Cougars in the game.

Jason Perry who was big for the Cougars in the first half tailed off only scoring 3 points the rest of the game.

With the win the Falcons not only improve to 16-11 and 4-1 in the conference, they also catch up to Long Beach City who defeated Cerritos earlier in the season and tied them at top of the conference. Because of this
