Cerritos Overcomes turnovers and El Camino

Malcohm Heron powered The Cerritos Men’s Basketball team over El Camino with a double double in the 74-63 victory Wednesday.

Cerritos came into the game on an emotional high after their 85-77 victory over the Compton College Tartars on Jan 24th.

Cerritos Came out hitting on all cylinders with no signs of a let down game at all. Cerritos’ 44-32 lead over El Camino at the half was aided by Heron’s strong overall performance. He finished the night with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

El Camino was able to stay in the game by capitalizing on Cerritos miscues and turnovers. The Falcons lost the ball a total of 18 times, the majority of which occurred in the second half. Matt Reid then led Cerritos in that category with 5 lost balls.

“We had a great opportunity to win the game comfortably and really put on a show up by 22 points.” said Men’s Basketball Coach Gary Cain while reflecting on the falcons performance in the second half, “we just simply lost focus.”

Tracy Cayhey, El Camino’s top scorer cashed in with a total of 21 points but his effort was not equaled on the scoreboard by any of his teammates as only James Chang had double-digit points with 12.

Despite Herons solid performance in the game he was not Cerritos leading scorer.

That title along with the “lost balls leader” title belonged to Matt Reid with 17 points in the game. Cheo White also contributed 12 points and six assists in the Falcon victory.

With the victory, Cerritos improves to 15-11 on the season and 3-1 in South Coast Conference play.

Cerritos’ remaining schedule after hosting L.A. Southwest on Friday, includes only opponents that they have already faced this season. Furthermore only a visit to Long Beach city remains as an away game.

With wins at both LA Southwest and Long Beach City, The falcons will be ranked first in the conference.

The Falcons should enjoy the friendly confines of Falcon Stadium for their games versus Los Angeles Harbor City College, Compton City College and El Camino City College.
