Jessica Germata, paralegal studies major, said, “Instead of cooking I donate my time at a soup kitchen with the assistance from ASCC [Associated Students of Cerritos College] members, plus I am a horrible cook. This is an opportunity to help people who may not have family to spend this holiday season.”

Jerry Reynoso, economics major, said, “Mashed potatoes because the process is fun. I start from scratch and go on till I am finished. First, I wrap the potatoes in a towel, boil them, peel off the skin then smash them and add some salt. I just need to have someone else taste it to make sure it is just right. I feel good when I make this dish because I feel a surge of ecstasy when mashing the potatoes.”

Kadie Gurley, commercial music major, said, “My favorite dish is Mac ‘n Cheese. Also casserole too plus I get to help my older sister making these dishes. My family and I go to my grandmother’s house for Thanksgiving, but not only for food because we bond together as a family. We even play games or watch movies together too.”

Johnathan Ortiz (1) 7326.jpg

Johnathan Ortiz, computer and information science major, said, “Standard traditional dishes like turkey and mashed potatoes. I would say it is like slowing down the time. My family and I get to enjoy each others’ company during this holiday since we are all busy every other day.”

Vanessa Maravilla (1) 7328.jpg

Vanessa Maravilla, physical therapy major, said, “I prepare scallops. It is a good alternative to Mac ‘n Cheese. It takes a good amount of hours to prepare. I dice the potatoes then add tons of cheese to make the sauce. I am a healthy eater so it is more on the organic side. At times I add bacon bits too.”
