Glendale creeps up on baseball

After a promising start in the first three innings, the Falcons allowed Glendale to slowly climb back into the game and eventually win it, 12-6.

Cerritos got a hot streak going with some good hitting from DH George Sanchez and catcher/outfielder David Neff.

Sanchez got the game started for the Falcons with a big hit to deep center field followed by a few RBIs from Neff and shortstop Max McEleney.

While the Falcons had a good lead and got back on defense, a mild confrontation occurred when Glendale infielder Danny Casey made a terrible and dangerous slide into first basemen Josh Bryan’s leg.

That incident caused a small spark in the Cerritos defense, but the game changed dramatically when Falcons pitcher Tony Peraza became fatigued and Cerritos had to make multiple substitutions in its pitching rotation.

The ball game really began to open up for Glendale when outfielder Andrew Sember hit an RBI triple to tie the score at 2-2.

In the third inning, Cerritos got the bases loaded and scored three runs of its own with a big RBI from Neff and outfielder/infielder Jay Mayoral.

However, the offensive game of the Falcons hit a slump which seemed to take an effect on the pitching troubles as well.

None of the pitchers got into any sort of rhythm after Peraza came out of the game.

Cerritos assistant Jack Brooks said that although the pitching did struggle, a few of them are returners and do know better, so with more practice and game experience. The Falcons will show much improvement as the season progresses.

After getting a good lead on Glendale, the fifth inning became the Falcons’ nightmare as the Vaqueros tied the game at six and then Glendale infielder Miguel Alverez stole home plate to take a 7-6 lead.

The runs just kept coming for Glendale and they finished the fifth inning with an 11-6 lead.

The momentum could never swing back in the Falcons directions, as they suffered a punishing loss that, in the beginning of the ball game, promised otherwise.

The Falcons will need to forget this loss in a hurry if they plan on winning their upcoming home game this weekend against Rio Hondo College and College of Canyons.
