On April 27, nine Cerritos College students will be participating in a professional psychological Conference called the Western Psychological Association.

The Association was founded in 1921, ”For the purpose of stimulating the exchange of scientific and professional ideas, in so doing to enhance interest in the processes of research and scholarship in the behavioral sciences,” Ana Buenrostro psychology major said.

Membership is available for both students and professionals who want to support and be apart of the network. For more information on the Western Psychological Association, and or its membership, you can go online at www.westernpsych.org.

The nine students who are presenting are former students from Psychology 220 research methods course, instructed by professor Kimberley Duff.

The Psychology 220 course is to prepare students who plan further work in psychology.

Throughout the semester, students objective is to prepare a project and present it at the end of the semester.

Buenrostro adds,”My group members and I studied media influences on male body dissatisfaction. The preparation was intense and required long hours of hard work but Dr. Duff was extreme helpful and guided everyone through the entire semester.

“I am excited about this experience because not many community college students attend these events. I think the networking will be the best because we will be among Psychologists, Scientists, and many people that can help Cerritos College student further their education.

“I am looking forward to learning about research in 2012 that will probably be printed in textbooks two to three years from now!”

Psychology instructor Dr. Kimberley Duff was unavailable for interview, but if you would like more information on the Western Psychology Association, you can contact her at (562) 860-2451 ext. 2780.
