The Strokes album review

This 10 track album titled ‘Angles’ by The Strokes may not be like their previous three albums, but it does sound similar to what we are used to hearing from them. If you are a fan of The Strokes you will not be disappointed when purchasing this album.

In the opening track “Machu Picchu”, Julian Casablancas’ voice comes in with his own rhythm for the song, and when you read the title, you might think he’s on top of the Machu Picchu sacred mountain taking part in a Peruvian ceremony thanking the Gods in the sky.

Their single “Under Cover Of Darkness” make this album stand out with the bass line played by Nikolai Fratourie, making it sound like a 80s song, but when Nick Valensi plays the solo it brings the song back to 2011.

“Two Kinds of Happiness” takes the album in another direction, in the first 12 seconds of the track it seems like someone switched the album and put a Flock of Seagulls album on and then Casablancas’ voice comes in and redirects it to their unique sound. In this track is where you can hear Fabrizio Morelli’s drumming skills at work.

This album has been long anticipated by their fans to be put out and they did not disappoint, it has a good melody throughout the album. It’s one of a handful that you can just put into your CD-player or IPod and listen to the entire album.

On “You’re Right,” The Strokes take it back old school and mess around with different sounds for their voices, and it gets Albert Hammond Jr. the rhythm guitarist, Fabrizio Morelli, and Casablancas harmonizing.

The Strokes had been in Hiatus for almost six years, but that didn’t stop them from continuing in their journey and perhaps it is because of their separate views in music is that this album will be a successful in their careers.

“Gratisfaction,” third to the last track on the album, it has a combination of guitar licks done by Valensi, and Hammond Jr., which  puts a smile on your face and makes you think about satisfaction of their success.

With tracks like those that I mentioned and those that I didn’t they will stick around for another 10 years.

If bands like The Strokes would put out two albums in a three year period and the go in Hiatus and then put out a third and fourth one in about the same time span, I’m pretty sure they will be successful longer than those who just want to put out an album every six months or in a year.
