El Camino College’s strong offense leads to a Cerritos College loss

Cerritos College’s men’s soccer team suffered it’s second loss of the season to El Camino College on the road, 3-1.

The Falcons got off to a slow start in the first, conceding a goal in the nineteenth minute thanks to Claudio Rodriquez, giving El Camino College the lead, 1-0.

“We started the game playing good,” said Falcons forward Thiago Lusardi.

He added, “They (El Camino) scored early in the game; we started to lose control and stopped playing our game.”

El Camino College finished the first half on top with the score of 1-0.

The Falcons came out in the second half playing with more pressure up front and and out-shooting the opponent, but that didn’t stop El Camino College from scoring.

El Camino College took advantage of their chances, with Carlos Marquez scoring in the sixty-ninth minute and Pepe Monroy scoring in the eighty-first minute, increasing El Camino College lead out, 3-0.

“They (El Camino) scored twice in a short period of time on two big defensively mistakes,” said Lusardi.

Defender Jeffrey Payeras scored the honor of securing the lone goal for Cerritos College, capitalizing on Jose Rivera’s corner kick in the eighty-seventh minute, shortening the lead, but with too little time left on the clock, as it stood final, in favor of El Camino, 3-1.

Goalkeeper Benito Gonzalez said, “We had chances during the game, but it wasn’t our day, they (El Camino) took advantage of their opportunities.”

The Falcons now have a record of 6 wins, 2 losses, and 2 ties. The Falcons next game will be against East Los Angeles on Friday at Falcon Stadium.
