Wrestling team pries victory from Palomar

The Palomar Comets put up a brave fight, but ultimately the Cerritos College Falcons wrestled the victory from Palomar, winning 33-12.

Having lost a previous match against Palomar, head coach Don Garriot said, “We lost to this team about three weeks ago, in the southern regional duals. We had to make some adjustments, get some guys healthy.”

He added that the team also switched tactics when it came to different opponents.

“We slowed the match down, we’re a little bit more patient and it made a difference,” he said.

The Falcons jumped ahead by 14 points when Voris Meeks, weighing in at 149 pounds, pinned Palomar’s Arturo Osorio, weighing in at 149 pounds.

Meeks said, “It went pretty well, I was excited because our 25 pounder won and going up into the 41 we had a little bit of problems there, but we bounced back.”

He added that mentally, the team was kind of rowdy and over excited, but that the coach Garriot settled them down.

“I’ve been working on my setups all week and I thought I had him[Osorio] down,” he said.

Head coach Brody Barrrios from Palomar said the Falcons wrestled well.

“They got pins, bonus points and put our guys on their guard,” he said.

Barrios added that his team need to get tougher.

Dylan Moreno said that the previous loss against Palomar had the team pumped and ready.

He wrestled Erik Collin, state No. 2 ranked, weighing in at 165 pounds.

Moreno said, “I went in there with a game plan, knew what I wanted to do, knew how I was going to beat his moves and made it my own match.”

I have coffee for blood and I'm not entirely sure I'm human anymore. I sort of stumbled into journalism and Talon Marks but I'm glad I did because I've always lacked direction, even though I've always been told I'm "smart." I've never really felt smart, more like the world doesn't make sense and I'm just trying to make sense of it. I'm a huge gamer and geek and the very model of a scientist Salarian. One thing you'll hear me say usually after several cups of coffee is either "I am Krogan" or "it had to be me, someone else would have gotten it wrong." I hope the editors and the new staff learn from my past mistakes, as well the ones that came before. I wish everyone the best in whatever they may pursue. Let's kick some ass, write good news and show them Talon Marks is more than just the newspaper. We're a team and family. This is Goose signing off, go get'em.
