‘White Queen’ captures readers

“The White Queen,” which is written by Philippa Gregory, who has also written the New York Times bestseller, “The Other Boleyn Girl,” is a superb novel.

It is set in the mid-to-late-1400s in feudal England, during the deadly feuds of England known as the Wars of the Roses. This book is about Elizabeth Woodville, also known as the White Queen.
She was a woman of extraordinary beauty and ambition. She rose to become queen by catching the young king’s attention with her beauty and wit, along with a little bit of magic.
Supposedly, she was the descendent of Melusina, a water goddess, who married a mortal.
From the day that Elizabeth is crowned queen, she is in constant danger of losing her life and her loved ones. There are many in the kingdom who do not like her and who want to kill her and her family.
In the beginning of her reign, the kingdom is in peace and tranquility and Elizabeth manages to grow a large family. But when her first son is about to be born, one of her husband’s brothers goes against the king and begins a war to claim the throne for his own.
Therefore, she and her husband have to go into hiding, her husband goes to rally troops and she is left alone with her mother and her young children. But the war is won and they go back as the triumphant royal family.
But there are many wars, and the king dies from pneumonia and announces his other brother to be the guardian to his young son.
The queen goes into hiding once more and the king’s brother announces himself as king. He takes her two sons into his custody and keeps them in the Tower of England. They are never seen again.
The two young princes’ fates are still unknown, their bodies have not been found yet, and nor has any information been revealed about their fates.
This book captures the audience in its web of deceit, drama, and betrayal. Even though this book is fiction, most of the events and actions really did happen.
I would recommend this book for serious readers and those who are looking for something intense and deep.
This novel was released on Aug. 18 and can be found in virtually any bookstore.
It is the first of a new series.
