Heads up, or better yet, tits up, as season two of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” is not as hilarious as the first season but just as entertaining nonetheless.
In season two of the Amazon Prime original series, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” we pick where we last left main character, Miriam “Midge” Maisel, demoted from her make-up counter department store job to switch board operator.
Also her cheating, sorry excuse for a husband, Joel Maisel, discovered that she, understandably, made a stand-up routine out of being cheated on.
Despite the lack of hysterical moments, there are some historical aspects depicted throughout the show, such as Midge, played by Rachel Brosnahan, being pulled off stage during a set for talking about pregnancy and the reproductive system found in most women.
Speaking of female reproductive systems, there were no titties, at all, in this season, but you’ll grow pink in the cheeks when you hear the entire cast curse more than sailors ever have in the entirety of their existence, which came across as anachronistic for being set in the late 1950s.
The costume design in this season put the previous season to shame, as the kids down in the costuming department clearly did their homework and put forward gorgeous outfits that would leave any vintage-loving viewer drooling.
And yes, in case, anybody was wondering Midge, finally found a man, because women should never learn to be independent and self-sufficient, according to the screenwriters.
Lovey-dovey plots are cute and all, but mainstream media needs more strong, leading female roles where they never feel the need to constantly be in a relationship to feel complete.
Besides the love interest plotline was unnecessary due to what unfolds in the final episode.
This season, however, shifted more on the relationship of Midge’s parents, Rose and Abe Weissman, played by Marin Hinkle and Tony Shalhoub, when Rose left to Paris and Abe went after her,
Fortunately, Susie Meyerson, Midge’s self-appointed manager, portrayed by Alex Borstein, yes, the voice of Lois from “Family Guy,” is still her curmudgeonly self though the “I thought she was a man” jokes get a bit old after hearing them every other episode .
However, when the big bomb was dropped this season when Midge’s father discovers that she is a comedian, it turned anticlimactic, and the big bomb turned out to be a little fizzle.
Despite, the number of allusions to Midge’s extensive hat collection, how she constantly forgets that she has two children, which at one point becomes more alarming than comical.
Overall, the chemistry between actors, the costumes being beautiful and accurate, this season’s plot wasn’t exceptional and wasn’t twice as hilarious as last season, but the second season of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” is still entertaining and worth the binge.
