Scary movies for the Halloween season

It’s that time of year where people dress up with ridicously scary costumes and eat your way to rotten teath. One of the main reasons why Halloween is great is because of all the scary movies that you get to see with friends, families, and loved ones. There are many great horror movies out there but these movies are the ones that influenced many horror movies.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre Review: The original 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of the scariest movies from the 1970’s era. What else can you want from a horror movie. You have an iconic villain who is part of a demented family of who kill their victims and eat them after. The will make you hate the sound of a chainsaw. What makes this movie awesome is that leather face is an unstoppable killing machine. What makes this movie scarier is the atmosphere of it being in rural area next to the woods. This movie is certainly not for people who are squemish when it comes to gore.

Halloween: John Carpenter has knack for making great horror films, but this one is arguably one of his best. Halloween is scary for many reasons; the score is one most memorable score in the horror medium, it’s a suspenseful score that makes movie goer cringe at every terrifying melody. One of the main reasons why many horror junkies get nightmares is because of Michael Myers. What makes him scary is that he shows no emotion because of pale white mask and that he is Halloween basically popularized the sub-genre of slasher films.

The Ring: For all the people who want to watch The Ring, don’t watch it in the dark, you’ll regret it. If anything watch The Ring with the lights on because it’s a genuinely scary movie. Basically what happens is that there a tape and when you watch it you get a phone call from a girls that says you will die in seven days. What really stands-out from The Ring is its terrifying visuals and a little girl which will be the creepiest thing you will ever seen. The Ring is must see for all those who want to get a real scare and a new set of pants.

The Blair Witch Project: Before there was the Paranormal Activity film, there was The Blair Witch Project. What made The Blair Witch Project a good horror movie is that it feels so real. The movie goers were given the impression that what they where watching actually happened. The basic message you should get out of this movie is that you don’t want to mess with voodoo and witchcraft. Those two practices just don’t mix well. What has to be the scariest moment is the ending of The Blair Witch project. It’s what you don’t see that makes grown men cry like little girls. The Blair Witch Project is horror gem that everyone should be watching this Halloween.

The Exorcist: Now here is there grand daddy of all of them. The Exorcist is one of the most horrific movies you will ever see. Forget about ghosts, serial killers, witches, and monsters. Nothing is more traumatic then a person being possessed by a demon. What is disturbing about this film is how the demon takes shape of an innocent girl named Reagan. Everything about this movie is great. From the bone chilling score music to the special effects along with the perfect ensemble of actors. The life lesson here is that you don’t want to play with Ouija, and if you do, good luck with that.

Fall 2014 Hey guys and gals, my name is Luis Guzman. I am journalism student at Cerritos College, I’ve been going there for about three years now. I have been involved with Talon Marks, the newspaper for Cerritos College, for five semesters. I like to read in my off time, mostly books about science fiction and horror. I also like to write fiction of my own, mostly poetry and short fiction. The career I have in mind would involve anything that has to do with creative writing and maybe writing some articles for newspapers here and there.
